"I crushed him to me and was hit with a feeling so incredibly strong that, for a moment, I couldn't breathe. There were aspects of it that I recognized easily - attraction, lust, but there were subtler aspects as well and they weren't as readily identifiable - companionship, longing and comfort. The only way I could describe that undercurrent of emotion, strangely, was ... home." - Master Ethan Bryant Ethan Bryant's world has been turned upside down by the loss of his submissives. Alone and desperate, his life spins dangerously out of control. Will a return to Chicago give him the closure he so desperately seeks? What happens when a childhood friend comes back into Ethan's life, vying for his love. Will Ethan find what he is looking for, or will Jayden's jealousy tear them all apart and make everything come crashing down? A House of Cards Deconstructing Ethan is the second book in the Forbidden Room series.

A House of Cards Deconstructing Ethan The Forbidden Room Series J P Barnaby Books

This was a well written story, but I just didn't love it. It's not JP's fault, sometimes you like a character and sometimes you don't. I am not a huge fan of Ethan. I enjoyed the emotional drama of this story, Ethan's life is changing and he isn't prepared for it, none of the characters really seem to get the support they need, from their supposedly best friends. I felt bad for all of them, especially the big drama at the end of the book. That almost seemed a bit much to me, needlessly dramatic, or something. I wanted Ethan to make better choices, be stronger, either be a Dom or be a Sub.

But it was a good book, it made me think, and I was invested in the story and the characters. Which is what I want out of a book.

A House of Cards Deconstructing Ethan The Forbidden Room Series J P Barnaby Books Reviews

The story was hard to get through, but Ethan's journey to acceptance and happiness was beautiful. You get to really get to know Ethan inside and out. All his inner musings, his thoughts, everything was full of emotion and you couldn't help but feel for him. Now Jayden...still think he's a selfish bastard, but if he makes Ethan happy...oh well, I'll go with that, but I don't have to like it. Personally I liked Gabriel better. He was good for Ethan and showed him from the beginning that he had Ethan's best interests in mind. Of course, Ethan wasn't a saint and he didn't treat Gabriel right, but it could be forgiven given his confusion and struggles.

Anyway, it had all the elements I love in a story. The emotions, great characters and the happily ever after. However, I still don't like Jayden, so THAT is still why I don't give the book the 5 stars it deserves.
Again.

I was so moved by this story, I just can't put words into it. The images J P Barnaby created are imprinted in my mind.
This is a wonderful conclusion to the TFR series. J. P. Barnaby really knows how to capture the emotions of her characters and bring them to life for her readers.
A good look into ethan. Glad he could finally move beyond his past. Wish there was more to the story.
Amazing! I love this book, I love Ethan.
This is the sequel to The Forbidden Room and I would highly recommend that you read that first. In my opinion, House of Cards tends to lean more towards gay erotica rather than bdsm like the first book. The characters seemed so real and so raw. Through the journal entries written by Ethan, the reader is provided great insight into his character. I found this to be a very good and highly emotional read.
I purchased this book on my kindle about 6 weeks ago. It took me a while to get to it as the summer was so busy. Once I started it though, I couldn't put it down until I was done. I was totally enmeshed in Ethan and Jayden and their relationship. Following Ethan's path of self discovery is, at times, both heartwrenching and heartwarming, but so worth it at the end. The emotions that Ethan and Jayden experience in this book are amazingly intense. The prose is so well written that their emotions wrap themselves around you and suck you into the story and into their lives. There were so many times while reading this that I was brought to tears of both joy and sadness. It is unlike any gay BDSM book I have ever read. I have always been a huge fan of J P Barnaby's work, and cannot wait until her next book is available.
